FAQs
I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
It’s great to have people in your life who care, but therapy offers something different. This is a space that’s just for you—free of judgment, advice, or expectations. As a trained mental health professional, I can help you explore patterns, reframe unhelpful thoughts, and develop tools that are tailored to your needs. Sometimes it’s easier to open up when you know what you say stays private and won’t be carried into family or friend dynamics.
What if I am already on medication?
For some people, medication can be helpful—and I support whatever approach works best for you. But medication alone often doesn’t get to the root of the emotional stress, burnout, or negative self-talk you're experiencing. Therapy gives you the space to explore the “why,” develop coping tools, and create lasting change from the inside out. If needed, I can also support you in coordinating care with your doctor.
What will sessions be like? What do I need to do?
Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. We’ll start with what’s weighing on you most and go from there. You don’t need to prepare anything or show up with the perfect words. Just come as you are. I’ll guide you through the process with compassion and curiosity, and we’ll shape your sessions based on what feels most supportive to you.
How long will it take?
There’s no set timeline—every journey is different. Some clients find relief in just a few sessions, while others choose to stay longer for deeper work. We’ll move at your pace, based on your goals, energy, and what’s coming up for you.
What can I do to get the most out of therapy?
The most important thing? Show up. You don’t need to be "ready" or have it all figured out—just be open. The more honest and engaged you are, the more space we’ll have to create meaningful change. You deserve this time for you.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I accept a limited number of insurance plans. I currently accept Cigna, Aetna, UnitedHealthCare, Carelon, Optum and NorCal Kaiser (For NorCal Kaiser with an approved authorization from NorCal Kaiser). Please reach out to confirm if your plan is one I work with. If you're using insurance, I recommend contacting your provider directly to ask about your mental health benefits, deductible, and copay so you know what to expect. I’m happy to help guide you through this process.
What if I want to pay out of pocket instead of using insurance?
Many clients choose to pay privately for the added flexibility, privacy, and ease. When you pay out of pocket (also known as “cash pay”), you have more control over your care—no need for a diagnosis, no limits on the number of sessions, and no insurance companies involved in your personal care decisions.
My current private pay rate is $170, and I offer a limited number of reduced-fee spots for clients who may need financial accommodation. If cost is a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we can explore a rate that works with your current season of life. HSA and FSA cards are also accepted.
